News

Two new events brought to my attention by the eloquent Charlie Farrow.

Tuscobia Ultra & the North Shore Winter Ultra

It seems that the Tuscobia is in it's first year, while the NSWU is in the second. These are great early winter primers for Arrowhead, or some spring gravel suffering.

It seems that Charlie from his post of these racers is still upset at his boy Tim Ek who along with Pramann and I left Farrow in a ditch somewhere in central Iowa. Little did we know that he would literally crawl out of the grave to finish the race and eclipse the effort that Ek, Pramann, and I put in.

I suspect that Farrow will be on the bus that attempts a sub-24 hour finish at this spring's running on the Trans Iowa.

  1. Mr. Meiser: You, Sir, are too kind. My only motivation to ride this coming Trans Iowa is to serve you in anyway that I am able, given my advanced age. However, from your post, I am given to believe that a "Pugsley" is in your future? If you show up at the Arrowhead 135, I will do everything in my power to assist you in defeating the EVIL PRAMANN!!!
    Best Regards,
    Charlie

  2. All I know is that I need to move further north. Coming from Argentina I never thought I would adapt so well to the frigid temps of the midwest. I hope to join in on the winter activities in the near future. In the meantime I will meet you gents at Trans Iowa.

  3. Tuscobia sounds awesome. Like a mini-Iditarod Invitational of the Midwest. Tough but definitely doable at 75 miles. Even with ridiculous snow or freezing rain. I long for some multi-sport events. Something that's not so myopic as a simple biking only event. Something not so much about winning but about surviving first. :)

As quoted from the site the Gear Requirements are as follows.

    3.5 fl. oz. fuel
    Pot to melt snow
    64 ounces of water containers
    3000 calories of food
    Firestarter
    Stove to melt snow
    Headlamp or flashlight
    Whistle
10 square inches of reflective material
3 Flashing red LED lights both on front and back
    75 Mile Race
Minus-20F degrees sleeping bag or colder rating
    Insulated sleeping pad
    Bivy sack or tent

The big question is the Minus 20 bag. I wonder if they'll accept layering a zero and a 15?

    Sounds like fun.
